What is Organic Farming?

Has organic farming become more than just farming? Simply removing Agri-chemicals is not enough to turn a conventional farm into an organic farm.
For example, organic farmers use quality compost, cover crops, and crop rotation to nourish soil naturally and to allow it to rest and regenerate.
Organic agriculture can greatly reduce the number of greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide, that contribute to global warming. And organic farmers also promote biodiversity, by growing a variety of crops, rather than one single crop.
Organic agriculture has demonstrated to outperform conventional agricultural systems under environmental stress conditions.

Around 20 farmers have come together under the banner of the Vadakkencherry Padasekhara Samiti for cultivating paddy on a 50-acre plot in Vadakkencherry panchayat in the district. They have been in paddy cultivation for the last few decades but this season they decided to switch over to organic cultivation, bidding goodbye to chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
